The Broken Contract – Alliance Magazine

We are proud to share the March issue of Alliance Magazine, edited by our colleague Gyuri Hámori.

In the feature article, the authors explore how the “triangle” between the state, civil society, and philanthropy has evolved over recent decades, and what kind of new collaboration might replace the old one if it no longer functions as it once did. Growing inequalities, the erosion of democratic institutions, and the shrinking civic space all indicate that the old “social contract” has fractured. According to data from 2024, less than 3% of the world’s population now lives in a truly open civic space, while an increasing number of countries are restricting civil society activity.

The magazine is also available online for purchase and reading here.
